Born in 1971, Brett Callan grew up in Los Angeles, CA. From an early age, Brett was exposed to the Murray Callan swim methodology, and became a top junior competitive swimmer. Brett competed in the Junior Olympics & grew-up enjoying playing sports.

Like his father Glenn, (who attended & played football at L.A. State University), and his grandfather before him, Brett made the transition to playing football and baseball when he attended Point Loma High School. This move led to an incredible successful high school athletic career where Brett was named the Eastern League Player of the Year, and All-County in both football & baseball. After graduation Brett accepted a scholarship to attend the University of California, Berkeley, where he was a receiver & punt returner for the Golden Bears football team. In his junior year, Brett was drafted by the Houston Astros in the 9th round and signed a professional baseball contract. Brett spent several incredible years in the Houston Astros organization before chronic shoulder problems prematurely ended his baseball career.

Off seasons were spent at Berkeley, where Brett continued his studies, graduating with a Bachelor’s in Sociology. Having a passion for adventure, after finishing his degree, Brett attended aviation school becoming a commercially-rated pilot. With a desire to teach, Brett later worked in ground and flight instruction. After 9/11, realizing the the aviation industry was in a decline, Brett turned to one of his first loves. The water. Brett is now the owner of Callan Swim School, San Marcos & continues to teach youth and adults how to swim.
